You can find and download the Gemini app for Android on the Google Play Store. To use the app, you’ll need a Google Account and an eligible device with 2 GB of RAM or more, running Android 10 and up. It’s available on hundreds of phone models in over 45 languages and 150 countries. Plus, the Gemini app comes pre-downloaded on certain devices.

How to use Gemini on Android: A step-by-step guide.

Long-press the power button on your Android mobile device or open the Gemini app. Once you bring up Gemini, it can handle the rest. It's great for answering quick questions, drafting emails, and brainstorming ideas.

Here’s how to use Gemini on Android:

  1. Get started on Gemini:
    • You can activate Gemini by long-pressing the power button on most Android mobile devices.
    • Find the Gemini icon on your home screen or in your app drawer and tap it.
  2. Grant permissions: Gemini may ask for permissions to access certain features on your phone, such as your microphone or camera.
  3. Start a conversation: There are many ways to chat with Gemini, like by text, voice or by attaching content
    • To chat by typing: Use the long-press power button or open your Gemini app, then use the on-screen keyboard and tap Send.
    • To chat by speaking: Tap the Gemini mobile app, then the Microphone and say your question or prompt with your voice.
    • To chat about images: Tap the plus sign (+) button to add a photo or file to your query. If Gemini is your default AI assistant, you can chat about what's on your screen – say ā€œHey Googleā€ or activate Gemini by touch, then tap Add This Screen.
    • To chat with screen context: Long-press the power button over an image, article, file or YouTube video you already have open. You'll see an "Ask about screen" or "Ask about video" button appear that you can click. Once clicked, add your question and tap Send

Removing your activity on the Gemini Android app.

You can customize your experience with Gemini, including deleting your activity on the app, either recent or in a specific period of time. To do so, follow these steps:

  1. On your Android device, open the Gemini mobile app.
  2. At the top, tap your Profile picture or initial and then Gemini Apps Activity.
  3. Choose the activity you want to delete. You can choose:
    • All your Gemini Apps activity: Above your activity, tap Delete and then All time.
    • The last hour or day: Above your activity, tap Delete and then select Last hour or Last day.
    • A specific time period: Above your activity, tap Delete and then Custom range.
    • A specific day: Next to the day, tap Delete all activity from the specific date.
    • A specific activity: Next to the activity, tap Delete activity item.

Note: Any audio, recordings or transcripts associated with a Gemini Live chat will also be deleted if you select to delete this activity.

Want to free up space on your phone by removing Gemini? You can uninstall the app from your Android device. Simply long-press the Gemini app icon or go to the Google Play Store to find the app and tap uninstall. If you change your mind, you can reinstall Gemini later.
